YEF Concludes August Retreat with a Call to Overcome Evil with Good

On August 24, Youth Evangelical Fellowship (YEF) concluded its four-day August Retreat with a closing service in the YEF Chapel. The gathering was filled with heartfelt worship, deep reflection on Scripture, and meaningful fellowship among members united by a shared passion for God’s mission.

Pastor Danielle White delivered a Spirit-led message that wove together multiple biblical passages to challenge and inspire attendees toward authentic Christian living. Her sermon focused on Romans 12:14–21, emphasizing the radical command to bless those who persecute us. She connected this teaching with Matthew 5:43–45, where Jesus calls believers to love their enemies and pray for those who oppose them.

“While retaliation may feel natural—‘an eye for an eye’—Christ calls us to something higher,” Pastor Danielle said. “He calls us to forgiveness, compassion, and a reflection of God’s mercy toward all.”

To illustrate God’s relentless love, Pastor Danielle turned to Luke 15, the parable of the lost sheep, reminding the congregation that God’s heart beats for those who are wandering or excluded. Quoting 1 John 4:8, she declared, “God is love,” and urged the community to extend that same love beyond the church walls—even to adversaries.

Drawing from Proverbs and James, she spoke on the need for wisdom and peace, warning that harboring hatred can block God’s work and lead to spiritual destruction. “True wisdom is not about clever words,” she noted, “but about righteous action—choosing goodness over retaliation.”

Pastor Danielle also reflected on 1 Samuel, recounting how David spared Saul’s life despite opportunities for revenge. David’s restraint, she explained, demonstrated a deep trust in God’s justice rather than human instinct.

Throughout the message, Pastor Danielle called the community to embrace the ethic of Christ’s kingdom: to overcome evil with good, choose grace over vengeance, and trust God’s timing and justice.

The service closed with a heartfelt prayer for strength to live out this calling. Afterward, attendees shared a catered lunch from the local golf club and enjoyed an afternoon of bowling—ending the retreat on a joyful note of fellowship and unity.

This retreat not only strengthened bonds within the YEF community but also renewed their commitment to reflect Christ’s love in every sphere of life.
