Bujumbura Emmanuel Church Reflects on Heavenly Treasures and Trusting God

Bujumbura Emmanuel Church in Burundi gathered for Sunday worship, beginning with 20 minutes of personal prayer. Each participant spent time quietly bringing their heart before God. Following prayer, Brother John led the congregation in joyful praise and worship.

Theogene delivered the day’s message from Matthew 6:19–34, teaching about storing treasures in heaven, seeking God’s Kingdom first, and trusting the heavenly Father rather than living in worry.

The message emphasized that earthly treasures are temporary and uncertain. They can be stolen, destroyed, or lost, while treasures stored in heaven remain secure forever. Every person enters the world with nothing and will eventually leave with nothing. Money, houses, and possessions cannot be carried into eternity; therefore, believers are called to live for something greater than earthly gain.

God has entrusted each person with time, strength, finances, talents, and spiritual gifts. When these blessings are used to support God’s work, serve the church, help those in need, and proclaim the Gospel, believers store up treasures in heaven. These acts of faith and love have eternal value.

The congregation was reminded of Jesus’ words: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” When people build their lives around earthly possessions, their hearts can become filled with anxiety. When their treasure is in heaven, however, their hearts are directed toward God and His Kingdom.

The preacher also referred to Matthew 10:29, which teaches that not even a small bird falls to the ground outside the Father’s care. If God watches over the birds, how much more will He care for His children? He knows every life, sees every need, and remains attentive to His people.

For this reason, Jesus calls believers to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, trusting that their heavenly Father will provide what they need. This promise does not encourage laziness. Believers must continue working faithfully, providing for their families, and fulfilling their responsibilities. However, God must hold first place in their hearts, time, finances, and daily decisions.

The message concluded with an encouragement to release anxiety and trust God. Worry cannot add even one hour to a person’s life, but faith in the Father brings peace. When believers seek His Kingdom first, they can move forward with confidence that He knows their needs and will faithfully care for them.

After receiving the message, the congregation stood together and sang “Count Your Blessings,” led by Brother John. Each person reflected on God’s goodness and gave thanks for His provision. With grateful hearts, the members also presented their offerings to God as an expression of faith and a declaration that their true treasure and their hearts belong to Him.
